Motorola announces the arrival of the Milestone 2, the much-awaited European GSM counterpart of the US-edition Droid 2. The Motorola Milestone 2 provides 3G support at the HSDPA 1900 as well as 2100 MHz bands, and will be marketed in Europe along with its smaller sibling, the Motorola Defy. You can compare Milestone 2 deals from Best Mobile Contracts.

The Milestone 2 is actually a rebadged model of Motorola’s Droid 2, which means it will run the same Android v2.2 (Froyo) operating system powered by the same 1GHz OMAP3 mobile processor.

Taking advantage of Android’s potential

European consumers will see Motoblur in action as Motorola has decided to use their bespoke user interface on the European edition, along with its resizable Live Widgets. The Milestone 2 ships with 512 MB of RAM plus 8 GB onboard internal memory and accesses the web through Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n or HSDPA-based 3G.

Taking advantage of Android’s full potential, the Motorola Milestone 2 can be converted into a 3G mobile internet hotspot hub, tethering up to five Wi-Fi devices simultaneously to maximise productivity. Further connectivity is provided by Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and DLNA media sharing.

Better features plus future upgrades

The 3.7-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display and the revamped landscape-oriented slide-out keyboard remain standard. Besides the 8 GB built-in internal memory, another 8 GB microSDHC external memory card will come bundled with the phone, with a maximum storage capacity reaching a whopping 40 GB if required.

The Motorola Milestone 2 provides support for mobile Flash Player 10.1 which will enable users to view websites based on Flash technology. The device’s built-in 5 megapixel autofocus camera is capable of 720p HD video recording and playback at 30 frames per second, a feature not supported by the Droid 2. The digital snapper also includes dual LED flash, geo-tagging and image stabilisation software for better photo management.
