ArtCamera App for iPad

Posted by simon under iPad on Saturday Mar 5, 2011

The ArtCamera App for iPad is one of the most popular applications for the iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad combined. The cost of ArtCamera is a mere 99 cents. It is easy to see how this has contributed to the popularity of the app. But, of course a low price tag is not all it takes for an application to be popular, as there are many free applications with considerably less downloads and much, much worse receptions than the ArtCamera Application.

Since the iPod touch does not have a camera built into the device you can only open saved photos rather than taking a photo and editing it immediately thereafter. Since the iPad does not have a camera in it you’re pretty much in the same boat, unless you import photos and picture through the official iPad camera connection kit. There are third party devices that are supposed to do the same thing, but they have been very poorly received as they are regarded as a giant leap in the wrong direction technologically.

It is worth it to buy an art camera style application for a device that does not natively have a camera? Though it is just a matter of opinion the general assumption is that this program is fun even if you don’t have a camera, hence its extensive use on the iPod touch. It is something fun to play around with and edit photos and turn them into things liken to works of art, just as the name suggests. The generally positive reviews through every review medium seem to suggest it is a very fun application to use, but individual applications are like games. This means that people have their own individual preferences and the only way to know what you would like is to try the thing in question out.

The ArtCamera application has several artistic filters for your pictures. They are Emboss, Raindrop, Sketch, Frosted Glass and Oil Painting. They can with an easy flick of the finger make your photos look like works of art in a matter of seconds. iPad free applications are hit and miss, there are some that are great and others that make you wonder how they got permitted to be sold on the official Apple store. There is a variety of free iPad knockoff programs, but for 99 cents even if you don’t find the ArtCamera to be particularly useful it’s not like you wasted a lot of money on it.

The applications pretty much is what it is. There are a few negative reviews for it online, but none that are terribly negative. The worst things that have been said about it are that it does not have as many features as one might want, but for 99 cents it seems that some people never feel they get their money’s worth. The filters do exactly what it seems they should, but some would expect more detail on the frosted glass or oil painting filters. The filters are actually quite good, but there is no pleasing all the people all the time.

ComiXology on the iPad

Posted by simon under iPad on Tuesday Mar 1, 2011

ComiXology on the iPad is an online comic book reader that allows you to download comics. You can get some free comics on there, but there are also a large number of commercial comics you can get for a fraction of their price in electronic format for viewing on your iPad, computer or any other compatible device. At its release comiXology offered over 1300 books from 30 different publishers along with 150 that you get for free just by downloading the application. Free Apple iPad apps are getting better and better as time progresses.

Free iPad programs and applications can be had through the Apple store. The comiXology application was originally made for the iPhone which also works on the iPod touch. It was relatively well received on the iPhone, but considering the massive size difference of the iPad it is getting much better reviews. The iPad is closer to the size of a comic book so it doesn’t require you to have to zoom in or feel like you’re straining your eyes to take in all the details.

The touch screen makes it where you can swipe a finger across the screen to turn a page or go from comic panel to panel in order to read digital comics. So far all the comics that are being released for the comixology application are of the Marvel brand, as DC and Warner Brothers have yet to release any comics in digital format. The digital format is starting to become more popular and really take off with comics though some people are skeptical of it.

Think of it, would you want to sift through boxes of comics in order to try to find a particular issue you’re looking to reread or just press a button on your digital device and have it literally at your fingertips anytime you feel you want to take another look at it? The answer is quite simple, it is in fact much more convenient to view comics digitally, but there are still some people that are against it.

It was like this years ago when people were skeptical of buying video games online. Now we live in a world where certain game add-ons and some games themselves are only available through online download. The digital exchange of monetary compensation for entertainment media is the way of the future. Think of the lack of cost of having to make copies of video games, or having to print comics for that matter. This makes it where the product costs less, as digital media is on average much cheaper, and the producer of the product stands to make more money. It is really a win-win situation. This strikes a blow against the fan boys and collectors of both video games and comics, but it is the sad truth of how things are becoming. Soon you won’t be able to show off your huge comic book collection by rifling through boxes and boxes of comics, but simply by pressing a button on your iPad and showing off your whole collection. With the iPad free programs and applications like this one, which is not free, media is slowly becoming completely digital.

Coolest free iPad hacks

Posted by simon under iPad on Sunday Feb 27, 2011

There are several new iPad hacks available. The coolest free iPad hacks are all available online. Of course if you’re downloading hacks for your iPad they should all be free. Free Apple iPad applications are available to anyone with a system capable of running them which is a great benefit of owning an iPad.

Apple fans were enthusiastic about the release of the iPad, but they were more enthusiastic about the iPad being hacked. It only took a few weeks before the iPad was successfully hacked, and ever since then there have been some pretty cool hacks released. The reason to do this is for the love of the iPad technology. Consumers love all of the features, but do not want to rely on the restrictive store in order to get all of their applications.

You can stream anything from the browser of your iPad to an Airplay enabled device. You can even use AirPlayer to enable AirPlay for IPad to your Mac. This cam just a short while after a Jailbreak app was released which allowed Airplay to function through 3rd party applications. No longer do you have to use 3rd party programs as an alternative to AirPlay on certain applications.

Just think about the technical specifications. The iPad comes standard with a 1 GHz processor. It had 256mb of built in DRAM and a separate graphics processor. This makes it more powerful than most computer that were out 5 or 10 years ago, meaning you can potentially run any application released from that time. Of course computer from then did not have full touch screen capabilities, which is a great benefit of the iPad.

You can even use iPhone 4 simulators in the jail broken, or hacked iPad. The most impressive and arguably the coolest iPad free application is the Dos Emulator released for it. It emulates a computer keyboard and a dos screen simultaneously. This has the potential of enabling the use of a myriad of applications previous only limited to personal computer device on the new iPad. iDos, which is the program that emulated DOS on apple devices was available for normal purchase through the standard Apple Application store. But, if you’ve dealt with Apple for long you know that they’re fickle when it comes to approving applications for the App store.

Of course the legality of this has been argued. You do not want to try to go to the Apple store to complain about the functionality of your broken and Jail Broken iPad, as hacking the device voids the warranty. Legally they can’t tell you how to use your device. If you want to use your iPad as an expensive drink coaster you may offend a lot of people, but you will not be doing anything that would be considered illegal. There is a similar gray area when it comes to modifying the software of your Hardware.

Surely they can make using Hacked software with 1st party applications difficult to do, and this is sometimes the case. When it comes to using hacked third party software you can kiss 1st party technical support goodbye. Sacrificing this for the functionality of a hacked device is to most not worth a second thought, but it is definitely something anyone on the cusp of this decision should consider.
